Hymn: 19 OT A

Readings for this Sunday: I Kings 19: 9, 11-13; Romans 9: 1-5; Matthew 14:22-33.

The meter of this text is 886.886; the tune for which it was written is "Meribah."

In storm-tossed waters rocked the boat

Which barely kept live and afloat

Th'Apostles of the Lord;

Then Christ appeared upon the waves

And said to Peter, "Come to Me,

The One who always saves."

How often in our utmost need

We fail to listen or to heed

The tiny whisp'ring sound

Elijah heard before the cave--

The sound of God who comes to save,

Who searches till we're found.

As God the cov'nant e'er shall keep

With Israel and ne'er hold cheap

The promise that was made,

So too we know in Christ God's love

Which came down to us from above

And all our ransom paid.
